Eye Examinations

We run comprehensive eye exams to help you see the best, detect vision problems early and help preserve eye health.

There is much more to eye examinations than just having a “sight test” and buying a new pair of spectacles or contact lenses.

Sight is often considered to be the most valuable sense. We are passionate about making you see at your best, as well as detecting eye problems early and helping to preserve eye health.

During your eye exam, our highly qualified optometrists will:

OCT Machine

We use our new Topcon Triton OCT to look at the health of the optic nerve and the macula (centre of the eye).
This hospital grade equipment scans the back of the eye 100,000 times a second, to generate a 3D cross-section of the retina, similar to ultrasound.
This helps look for and monitor:

  • Age-related macula degeneration
  • Glaucoma
  • Epiretinal membranes
  • Inherited eye conditions
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Hypertension

We use our new Nikon-Optos California Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging Camera to look at the health of the peripheral retina. This hospital grade equipment allows us to see over 80% of the retina in one photo. This was not possible before and has transformed how we exam the eyes. This helps with:
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Screening for retinal tears & detachments
  • Flashes & floater symptoms
  • Documenting freckles
  • Identify areas that are not working well

We explain all the procedures and treatments that you may need during your visit.

We then discuss in detail any recommendations.

Our fees for private eye examinations reflect the quality of eye care we deliver. We encourage our NHS patients to pay the additional fee that extends the NHS sight test to the comprehensive eye examination which includes the new highly advanced 3D OCT retinal scan & Nikon Optos Widefield Retinal photo currently not included in the NHS sight test.
